Coach Profile:  Paul Sherman, Member Coach

Paul Sherman
Paul Sherman is a certified personal and professional coach with a passion for helping individuals and organizations be their best. He came to coaching after more than a decade as an organizational effectiveness and training consultant having worked with over 50 major corporations and government agencies worldwide.

Described by Forbes Magazine as a "miraclemaker" or, more precisely, a "miracle medium," Paul's talent lies in his ability to facilitate individuals, teams and organizations to question business as usual and take action to move forward.

Paul is a summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Harvard University. After earning a degree in psychology, he went on to be a founding member of Cambridge Technology Partners (CTP), a global consulting firm that skyrocketed to revenues of nearly a billion dollars after only seven years in business. While at CTP, Paul pioneered several workshop-based methodologies that enabled cross-functional teams of clients to rapidly plan and execute initiatives designed to address critical business issues. Among his clients were: American Airlines, Hewlett Packard, US Sprint, Allmerica Financial, and State of FL. In addition to his work as a billable consultant, Paul was also responsible for internal learning and development (a challenge in a company adding hundreds of people each year!).

It was during his CTP tenure that Paul discovered his passion for "the people side of business." He saw firsthand the business case for getting the "people stuff" right. His key learning: no matter how much money, research, technology and other resources you throw at a project, it is doomed to failure if you do not have a workforce of focused, aligned, and committed individuals.

Wanting to experience "first-hand" what it was like to work inside a "traditional" company, Paul departed Cambridge Technology Partners to lead the Customer Service Performance Development Group at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts (BCBSMA). Over a two year period, Paul partnered with his internal clients to create and deploy a new "Service Vision" for the organization through a combination of people, process, and technology interventions. Having "lived it from the inside" Paul's experience as an internal change agent at Blue Cross has proved invaluable in his role as an external consultant and coach.

Concurrent with his employment at Blue Cross, Paul earned a Masters Degree in Human Resources Education from Boston University. Upon completing his Master's, he left Blue Cross to join Amherst Consulting Group, a Boston-based management consulting firm renowned for its work in helping companies implement their business strategies by shaping their corporate cultures. The bulk of Paul's client work at Amherst consisted of helping merging companies to rapidly integrate. In addition, he worked with organizations undergoing significant change to identify and deploy their business strategies. Paul's clients at Amherst included: Bethlehem Steel, Serono Laboratories, and Bell Atlantic.

Following the acquisition of Amherst by Keane, Inc., Paul joined forces with tompeters!company. As a facilitator and coach he focused on helping individuals and organizations optimize their performance. While at tompeters!company Paul created and delivered a multi-phased leadership development program for the top 30 leaders of Venezuela's largest information technology consulting firm.

In the spring of 2002, Paul began his own coaching and consulting practice, Facilitated Results. The business is dedicated to helping individuals and organizations to be their best. His diverse client ranges from business people who want to enhance their professional skills and leadership abilities to individuals who are experiencing life transitions. In addition to coaching, Paul continues to consult to businesses on learning, strategy, business development, and organizational effectiveness. In 2003 he became an adjunct faculty member at Cambridge College where he designed and taught a new graduate level program in Personal and Professional Coaching.

Most recently, Paul served on the executive team of The Coaches Training Institute (CTI), the world's largest in person and first accredited coach training organization. While with CTI, he led the creation of The Co-Active Network (www.coactivenetwork.com), a worldwide virtual coaching community with over 4,000 members. Following his work on the Co-Active Network, he successfully launched CTI's Corporate Business Division, bringing coaching training to organizations worldwide.

Paul's clients characterize his coaching style as extremely straightforward, enthusiastic, feedback-intensive, empathetic, intuitive, authentic, pragmatic, and business-focused.
